Gap Community Child Development Center was established in 1982 and is a non-profit; tax exempt Center that is licensed by the District of Columbia. GAP is nationally accredited by NAEYC and has been accredited since 2009. GAP provides a multi-cultural educational and developmental program for children ages six (6) weeks through five (5) years. At GAP we seek to motivate, to stimulate and to challenge our children, in a safe environment, so that learning is fun, exploring is exciting and developing new concepts is an adventure. The curriculum, Creative
Curriculum/Teaching Strategies Gold and the D.C. Common Core (D.C. Standards for Early Childhood Education), informs the Administration and teaching staff to provide a learning environment that embraces the “whole child" and facilitates their positive cognitive, emotional and physical growth. Administrators and teachers at GAP strive to continue relevant training and education to insure that "best practices” in early childhood education are implemented, and adhered to. GAP embraces our families and the community that we serve and understands that a successful early education program requires strong partnerships. GAP celebrates the multi- cultured and multi- ethnic children and families that enrich the GAP family. This diversity creates a mosaic that reflects intelligence, inclusion, dignity, respect and awareness of others, and of self. This awareness and respect for diversity is a core component of GAP’s philosophy, and is integral to everything we do here at GAP. Whether a child is engaged in dramatic play, tummy time or taking those first steps, learning to count in English, or Spanish; learning the alphabet; sorting manipulatives, running or riding trikes on the playground, dancing to a Zumba beat, or exploring the sensations of day and night, hot and cold, and the visual power of an erupting volcano, GAP's teachers, staff and the administration are committed to educational excellence and to the children and the families that we serve. Come to visit us and you will see how GAP shines. Zinora M. Mitchell-Rankin, Executive Director
